Hardback book ‘High Country’ by Rev. Alistair MacLean, 1928. The Rev. MacLean had Tiree roots and was a writer as well as being the minister for the parish of Daviot and Dunlichity. The book is a collection of his own essays about the role of Christianity in life. His son was the famous author Alistair MacLean who wrote ‘The Guns of Navarone’ and ‘When Eight Bells Toll’.

Sepia portrait photograph taken around 1900 of an unamed graduate who either became a minister on Tiree or was related to the MacKinnon family at Kirkapol. The original photograph was presented with two other portraits in a wooden frame that was carved by one of Hector MacKinnon`s family (Lodge Farm, Kirkapol) at Lady Victoria`s woodworking class, ca 1910. The frame was beautifully ornate but was broken during woodworm treatment in 2013. (originals stored in filing cabinet 10 drawer 1)

Composition by Ailean Boyd about the tradition of `Lining Out the Psalm` in Tiree churches, whereby the precentor chants out each line before it is sung collectively by the congregation. It appears to have come to an end in the mid- to late-1930s. Includes a ‘Short Note’ on the subject published in Scottish Reformation Society Historical Journal, Vol. 4, 2014, and notes about the correct name for Heylipol.

History of Coll MacColl, son of the Rev. Archibald MacColl of Tiree, compiled by Alasdair Roberts in 2013. “As a young man he fathered an illegitimated child in Tiree, went as a gardener to Bishop Ranald MacDonald`s Lismore seminary, became a Catholic and then a priest, undertaking pastoral journeys through the Highlands. Emigrated to Australia after falling out with the Vicar General in Arisaig, dying within 3 weeks of arrival.”

Heavy, calf-skin bound, hardback book belonging to Lachlan MacKinnon, Hillcrest. On the inside cover is an ornately hand-drawn name plate `John McCallum` with the date cut from the top of a newspaper `Saturday, March 3, 1877`. John McCallum may have been the husband of Mrs McCallum (Monica Smith`s grandmother) that Lachlan MacKinnon drove to bible meetings. Includes a photocopy of a torn loose-leaf A3 drawing of `Bunyan`s Dream` that is stored separately in filing cabinet 9 drawer 4 (2013.61.2).
