Pewter quaich inscribed with the names of former Tiree Scottish Women’s Institute members, from 2000 to 2005. the names inscribed are: Mrs W. MacFadyen (2000), Mrs A. MacDonald (2001), Mrs A. MacKinnon (2002), Mrs A MacIntyre (2003), Mrs A. MacKinnon (2004), Mrs M. MacIntyre (2005).

Jennie Niven, the donor, was the final organiser for the last 15 year’s of the SWI’s organisational history in Tiree.

Digitised copy of a letter from John G Campbell to the Duke of Argyll, dated 17 September 1864. Campbell discusses school prizes offered by the Duke, and the winners of the prizes; details of the examination held at Moss Church, attended by Mr Geekie, Dr Buchanan and Mr John McLean (Cornaig); problems with teachers, including those at Sandaig and Heylipol, and the difficulty in getting new teachers; the need to improve the school house at Heylipol; lack of schooling provision in the west end of the island; closure of the assembly school in Balevullin; difficulties with the Crois teacher (‘a mere boy & a teacher only in name’) and the lack of schooling over the winter in that part of the island; the achievements of John McLean (Cornaig) at College in Glasgow.

Collection of articles, poems, photographs and illustrations by Alistair MacNeill of Hynish (b. 1940). Alistair recollects his experiences competing in the County Sports, Skerryvore Lighthouse, the Great China Tea Race of 1866, rock fishing with a bamboo rod, ‘The Wembly Wizards’ Scottish football team of 1928, gathering tangles (seaweed) for the kelp industry, Ben Nevis, a puffer coal boat at Hynish pier. Includes two covering letters with further information.

Hardback book ‘John G Paton – The Missionary Hero of the New Hebrides’ by Charles D Michael, ca 1900, about the life and times of Rev John Gibson Paton of Kirkmahoe, pioneering minister in the South Pacific Islands (now Vanuatu) in the mid 1800s. On the inside front cover is written ‘Malcolm Brown 1st Prize 1933’ and John Brown, Balephuil, Tiree. From the house of John Brown, The Sliabh, Balephuil.

Canteen of silver and stainless steel cutlery presented to Archie MacIntyre, Gott, for his sheep at the 1959 Agricultural Show. A silver plaque on the top of the canteen reads ‘Presented by Tiree Association, Tiree Agricultural Show, 1959’. Contains 31 pieces made by Duncan & Scobrie, Sheffield.

Printed scans from the register of the Royal Humane Society of London, 1869, showing the entry for Captain Archibald Brown, Mannal, and his crew who saved three of the crew of the ‘Maria & Fanny’ when it was stricken on rocks near Kenavara in August 1868. The Society awarded the Captain Brown the silver medal for bravery and his crew bronze medals. The crew were Neil Sinclair, Archibald MacLean snr, Archibald MacLean jnr, John Black, Duncan MacLean, Thomas Campbell and Archibald Brown.
