Archive film from 1963 of (1) The Wheelhouse at Drimore, South Uist, (2) Dun Mor Vaul, Tiree

DVD film from the Scottish Screen Archive about the Wheelhouse at Drimore on South Uist and Dun Mor Vaul on Tiree. Filmed in 1963, colour, silent. Made by the Hunterian Museum, the films feature (1) two men (presumably archaeologists) displaying photographs, line drawings, text, and pottery and bone fragments from the wheelhouse excavation, along with a model of the excavated site (the film does not contain footage of the actual wheelhouse), (2) footage of the excavation of the broch at Vaul by a team from the University of Glasgow, plus diagrams and pottery fragments.

Internet web page from the journal `British Archaeology`, Nov/Dec 2007, summarising new finds of mesolithic flint `tanged points` in Orkney. Confirms significance of similar tanged points found on Tiree and Wester Ross, indicating late glacial settlement of those areas.

Booklet “First Footsteps – searching for prehistoric hunter-gatherers in the Hebrides” summarising the archaeological findings of Prof. Steven Mithen and colleagues from the University of Reading during their surveys of Tiree, Coll, Gunna, Mull, Colonsay & Oronsay and Islay during 2006. Includes a letter from Steven Mithen to Dr John Holliday (02/04/08) and a copy of a research note about his work at Fiskary Bay, Coll, published in Scottish Archarological News.
