Digitised copy of a map of Tiree, dated 1680. Digitised copy of the Rental of Argyll estates to be put in the hands of trustees, 1681. The item is damaged leading to the loss of some place names and values.

Contains rents paid in money and victuals for areas in Argyll including Kilmarten (Kilmartin), Colonsay and Oronsay, Ardnamurchane and Swennart (Ardnamurchan and Sunart), Lismoir (Lismore), Midle Lorne and Nethir Lorne (Middle Lorne and Nether Lorne), Cowal, Morverne (Morvern), Mull, Jura and Skarba (Scarba). Individuals are also listed, including: Cap[tai]n of Clan Ronald, Lord Neil Campbell and the Laird of Calder (possibly Cawdor) for Jura.

Contains rents paid in money and victuals for the west and east ends of Tiree. The z in this historical form is the Scots letter yogh), Sorob and Balimartin (Soroby and Balemartine), Mannall (Mannal), [one illegible entry], Eiren (Heren), Balliphill (Balephuil), Kenvar, Baroboll (Barrapol), Ballimennach (Middleton), Sandaig, Criannall (Greenhill), Kerrifergus (Kerrefurgus), Kerrimenach (Kerremeanach), Kerrinakill (Keranokile), Crossiger (Kerachrosecar), Murdott (Murstat), Hough, the miln of Hieliboll (the mill of Heylipol), Balliwillnig (Balevullin), Killmaluag (Kilmoluaig), Bilst and Ballinacragarach (Beist and Baile nan Cràganach), Bassaboll (Bhasapol), Cornaigmoir (Cornaigmore), Cornaigbeg, Kenway (Kenovay). Digitised copy of Memorial about the set of Benbuy (Beinne Bhuidhe), 1681. The Memorial discusses: the set (lease) of the land in 1678; numbers of livestock kept on the land (including ‘meares’, ‘deere’, cows and stirks); the management of deer on the land; salaries of the ‘taxmen’ (tacksmen – tenant farmers).

The Memorial names several tenants – McConochy, Nicoll McNicoll of Elerchemore and Dougall McEllure of Killblaan – and other place names. The second page contains further remarks on cows, ‘meares’ and ‘deere’ on the land and prospect of the 9th Earl of Argyll making an advance in exchange for half the ‘old benefite’.

Notes in a later hand record that document is ‘very interesting’ and that it contains the ‘handwriting of the 9th Earl of Argyll’ as well as old place names.
