Citations of John Campbell`s war medals
Printed pages from the website of Friends of Popski`s Private Army, citing the medals of John Davies Campbell earned during service in Europe in WWII. John Campbell was the owner of the yacht `Oceana` that grounded and broke up on Crossapol Beach at Baugh during a storm in 1949.
Two badges and a certificate for proficiency in Gaelic conversation, 1930s
Two brass badges (one gold and one red) and a small card certificate awarded to Fionnghal NicFhioghainn (Miss Fiona? MacKinnon), and signed by Neil Shaw on behalf of An Commun Gaidhealach. Mr Shaw came to the school every year in the 1930s to examine the pupils` ability to make Gaelic conversation. Grades of proficiency were gold (bottom grade), colour? (làn/full, second grade) and red (sàr/excellent, top grade).

Wooden shield bearing 12 engraved silver shields giving the names and dates of Tiree SWRI award winners between 1960 and 2013. Presented by Mrs Rutter for the silver jubilee in 1985. Names listed: Rosie Kelso, Dorothy Burnie, Annie MacKinnon, E Lapsley, Wilma MacFadyen, M MacIntyre, E Robertson, M Green, J Gray, E O`Dea, M Sinclair, O.V. Goldie, Fiona Maxwell, M MacDonald, Jennie Niven, Caroline MacLean. On permanent load for safe-keeping.
Pewter tankard awarded in 1884
Pewter tankard inscribed “10th LRV Sports 1884 Tug-o-War won by N. McIntyre”. Found on a beach on Tiree and given to the donor`s mother around 1980. N. McIntyre may have been Neil McIntyre, Balevullin/Kilkenneth (b. ca. 1840), the donor`s gt-gt-gt-gt-grandfather`s brother (see 2012.116.2).

11 newspaper cuttings about the rescue of Kenneth MacClounnan, Balephuil, by his girlfriend Christine MacFarlane, when their fishing boat `Travee`, skippered by Kevan Brown, Balephuil, sank in Gunna Sound in 1991. Bound within a `Silk Cut Nautical Awards` folder. Christine was presented with the award for her bravery at the Dorchester Hotel in London in 1991 (see photo R125 and object 2012.74.2).

Silk Cut Nautical Award presented to Christine MacClounnan (nee MacFarlane) at the Dorchester Hotel in London in 1991, for her bravery when rescuing her husband Kenneth MacClounnan, Balephuil, from drowning. The couple were out in Kevan Brown`s, Balephuil, fishing boat `Travee` in Gunna Sound when a freak wave wrecked the boat. Christine prevented Kenneth (who could not swim) from being washed out to sea by dragging him ashore with her – an effort that took an hour of swimming in difficult conditions. Glass and brass on marble plinth.
