Family history of Archibald MacKinnon, Vaul (1844-1902)

Documents relating to Archibald MacKinnon (1844-1902) who was born in Vaul in 1844, emigrated to Australia aboard the `City of Grafton` in 1876, and died in Balmain in 1902 after falling at the Jubilee Docks where he was a shipwright. Includes family trees, will and transcripts from 3 newspaper articles about his death. Grandfather of Ailsa MacKinnon, Australia, and great-grandfather of Anthony MacKinnon, Australia, who carried out most of the family history research.

Colour photograph of Lachie & Flora MacLean, Druimfraoich, at ‘Naimh Chaluim Chèaird / the cave of Calum the tinker’ on the Balephuil side of Kenavara around 1995-2000. Thought to be a Neolithic/Bronze Age burial chamber. It is named after a traveller who presumably sheltered there.

Article published in Ancestor Vol. 29 No.3 2008, about the lives and deaths of James McDowall (1780-1821), who was the Excise Officer on Tiree from July 1891 until December 1821 when he died at sea off Coll on the way back from Mull, and his grandson Archibald McDowell (1850-1894), who died during service as a fireman in Melbourne, Australia. Written by Margaret Whitaker, wife of James McDowell`s g-g-g-grandson, in 2008. Includes a letter from Margaret Whitaker to An Iodhlann in January 2011.
