Includes: map of Britain showing location of Tiree and Skerryvore, plan of Hynish showing pier, dock reservoir, lightkeepers and seamens houses etc., charts of Skerryvore rocks and minor skerries, plans of Skerryvore rocks showing during low and high tides, plans of the curves for the lighthouse towers, engineers sketch of the marine dynamometer, plans of the temporary barrack, scaled elevation of completed lighthouse, longitudinal and transverse sections of the lighthouse, engineers sketches of the balance crane used and Hynish dock. Copy of portrait “A Tiree Girl”

Colour print of a portrait “A Tiree Girl”, belonging to Su and Ian Aitkens, Balephuil. The girl is thought to be Ellen MacDonald, Balephuil (1886-1988), who emigrated to Manitoba, Canada, in 1910 with her sister Catherine. Unknown artist, although could have been painted by D. MacGregor-Whyte in the 1930s, who painted “The Lady of the Manse” in 1935, also owned by the Aitkens. See 2009.86.2.

Collection book for subscriptions towards the upkeep of Soroby Cemetery 1908-1954

Small notebook containing handwritten record of names and amount given towards the upkeep of Sorobie Cemetery between 1908 and 1954. Names include: Donald Lamont (The Land, father of Mary lamont, Mod Gold Medalist), Donald Campbell (“the ban”, grandfather of Alasdair Sinclair Greenhill “Alasdair beag na Cachala”), Gilleasbuig Campbell (his borther), Donald MacLean, Balinoe (his nickname Donald a` Tommy was to do with his hat, great uncle of Willie MacLean, Balinoe), John MacDonald, Sandaig (“Beegee”). Also a small type-written note informing subscribers of Argyll County Council`s failure to keep the cemetery in an orderly state and the need to revive the subscriptions system. The notebook was evidently passed around between subscribers.
