Ann McMillan/McDougall (wife of John McDougall, Balevullin) and Alice Bake/McMillan (wife of Archibald McMillan, Balevullin) quarrelled about ducks and fought at the house of Sarah Cameron or McMillan (widow, Balevullin) on 28 September 1880.

Transcript of investigation by the Procurator Fiscal charging Archibald MacDonald with bigamy, 1865. Archibald MacDonald (farm servant, Tiree. A native of Coll) married Esther Ferguson (servant to Mungo Campbell Duff, Architect, Glasgow) in Lockerbie in 1862, and also Sarah MacLeod (daughter of Archibald MacLeod, Balevullin) in Balinoe, Tiree, in 1863.

Many of the statements were originally given in Gaelic but are transcribed in English. William Robertson, Esquire Sheriff Substitute of Argyllshire, writes that John McMillan’s statement was given in the Gaelic language and translated into English by the Judge Examiner, and then read back to the defendant in Gaelic.
