Names of men who died in the Great War (WWI)
List of names of 13 soldiers and sailors of Heylipol Parish who fell in the Great War 1914-1919, transcribed from a brass plaque above the altar in Heylipol Church in 2014. Names include Lamont, MacDonald, MacFadyen, MacFarlane, MacLaren, MacKinnon, MacPhail, Sinclair and MacArthur.

Geneological information and correspondence about Henry Lamont (Eanruig MacCuaig MacLaomainn) born in 1888 on Islay, whose father John Lamont was born on Tiree:
Henry Lamont born 18th April 1888, Port Ellen Kildalton, Islay – Father John Lamont, Shoemaker; Mother Margaret MacCuaig. John and Margaret (Maggie) were married on 15th July 1881 in Glasgow. On the marriage certificate, John Lamont is recorded as living at 129 Blackburn St., Plantation. Maggie MacCuaig is recorded as Domestic Servant at the same address.
In the 1881 census, which was taken a few months prior to the marriage, John Lamont is recorded as a boarder living at 129 Blackburn St., Plantation (the same address as when married), who was born on Tyree.

Photocopy of Signal Card, 1908-1914
Colour copied cover and pages of a card notebook of Naval flag, semaphore and morse code signals produced in 1908 and reprinted in 1914. Belonged to Neil MacLean (Niall a` Mhuilinn), Millhouse, Cornaig, and used in 1917 during WW1. On the inside cover, Neil has written his name and addresses, as well as doodled, in pencil and ink. Accession includes another copy on card mocked-up into a replica notebook for display.

Pamphlet listing the names, service number, rank, regiment/service, township and remarks for Tiree men serving during the years of 1915 to 1917. Produced by and sold in aid of the Tiree Association Ladies` War Work Guild.

Black & white photograph of Archibald Henderson of Kilmoluaig (1854-1903), in the uniform of the 5th Volunteer Battalion of The Highland Light Infantry, in around 1880. Archibald was the son of Hector Henderson, Grianal (1812-1856), and Julia MacLean, Kilmoluaig (1827-1873) – family of the Hendersons of Moss. He migrated from Tiree to Glasgow in the 1880s.
The uniform was based on that of Black Watch, including the same tartan and a similar style cap badge. The 5th Volunteer Battalion of The Highland Light Infantry was raised in Glasgow in 1868 and was known as the Glasgow Highlanders ‘G’ Company, being made up of natives from Argyllshire. The honorary Colonel of the battalion was the Duke of Argyll. The volunteer battalions were akin to the modern reserve force of the British Army (Territorial Army).

Letter from Private Charles MacDonald, Middleton, 1916
Website printout of a transcript of a letter to `Effie` from Private Charles MacDonald who was serving in the 6th Seaforths in 1916. Charles was Lachie MacDonald`s (Middleton) uncle. He died in action in 1918. His body was never found.
