Book “The Catholic Knight of Crofting” by Donald Meek 1993

Softback book about Donald MacFarlane (1830-1904), defender of croft land and crofters` rights, written as an academic study by Prof. Donald E Meek, Caoles, in 1993, and reprinted from the transactions of the Gaelic Society of Inverness (1995). Includes songs that were written about Donald MacFarlane and recited on Tiree and Mull into the 1980s.

Men`s leather gaiters

Two pairs of men`s brown leather gaiters worn by crofters over their shins and calves. One long pair and one for just around the ankles. Worn by John Fletcher`s (Balemartine) father and found in the house that used to stand at Pairc na Coille, Balephuil. Manufactured by F.C. Chamberlain & Co., Wellingborough, in around 1910-1920, probably for WWI army uniform.
