Bound undergraduate dissertation ‘A view of Tiree in 1965’ by FG Hay, Geography Honours, University of Glasgow, 1967. Based on a visit to the island in June-July 1965. Topics include geology, land managment, population and demographics, weather, townships, crofting, infratructure, communications and amenities.

Hardback book ‘Dr Elsie Inglis’, ca. 1920, a biography written by Lady Frances Balfour, the sister of the Duke of Argyll, and owned by Katie MacKinnon, Lodge Farm, Kirkapol. Inscribed inside is “To John, in memory of Elsie MacKinnon, Kirkapol”. Dr Inglis herself (1864-1917) did not have any links to Tiree. Chapters of the book include her ancestry, studies, London and Dublin, politics, faith, war and Scottish women, Serbia and Russia, covering the period 1740-1917. She died from a severe illness shortly after arriving back in Britain.

Softback book ‘Flowers in the Snow’ by Gwyneth Hoyle, 2001. A biography of the plant collector Isobel Wylie Hutchinson who travelled the northern latitudes of the world in the first half of the 1900s in search of plants. Her travels through Scotland, Iceland, Greenland, Alaska were by various and interesting means. Includes Tiree.
