Collection of fliers, information and letters about a presentation titled ‘Captain Donald MacKinnon, Clippers and the China Tea Trade’ given by Lloyd Pitcher in Australia on 7th March 2017. Captain Donald MacKinnon, Heanish, sailed the tea clipper ‘Taeping’ to victory in the Great China Tea Race of 1866.
Colour booklet and certificate to accompany the ceramic poppy delivered to An Iodhlann from the Tower of London WWI memorial display in 2014. Includes annotations and two letters from donor Greta Travers dated 2 April and 16 December 2015. Greta was stationed on Tiree as a WAAF during WWII.
Instruction manual for the Fordson plough ‘Elite’ 3-2 furrow, 1948, and Spare Parts List for ploughs and implements, 1940s, issued by the Ford Motor Company, Dagenham. These were supplied by George & Jobling, the authorised main Ford and Fordson dealers in Glasgow. Owned by A MacLean, Caoles.
Colour brochure about the Thatched Cottage Museum at Sandaig, produced after the buildings had been restored by The Hebridean Trust and made open to the public around 1995. Contains information on construction and the layout of the house, byre and barn, and tools found therein. The museum was closed and sold into private ownership in 2010.
The Soldier’s Bible. Postcard printed with the story of a young soldier who is caught playing cards during a church service, and who later explains that he has neither Bible nor Prayer Book and that each card represents a scene from the bible. Made famous by a hit song by Texas Tyler in 1948.
