Section of sub-sea power cable between Tiree & Gunna

Section of the sub-sea power cable that conducts electricity to Tiree from the mainland. The section was cut from between Gunna and Tiree when the power cable was broken and replaced in 2011. Three-phase current at 11,000 volts (compared with the Islay cable which operates at 33,000 volts). Yellow and black outer sheath, inner protection of ring of steel wires, followed by ring of lead insulation around inner electrical cable of three copper cores.

Long white nightdress

Full-length white cotton nightdress with broderie-Anglaise ruffle collar and cuffs, buttoned half-way down the front with a small ruffle. Worn by Felac (Flora) MacEachern (1874-1955), sister of John MacEachern, Cornaigbeg (Mairi Brady`s grandfather), in the 1950s, and also worn by Felac`s sister, Peggy (Margaret) MacEachern (1868-1963). Both women never married and lived at Creag Mhor, Cornaigbeg, all their lives.

Two scallop-shaped butter dish souvenirs from 1957

Two tin butter dishes in the shape of scallop shells bearing a blue badge showing the crofters stook, rake and pitch-fork emblam, and a red scroll beneath reading “Tiree”. Each has a white mica lining which was removed for washing. Souvenirs bought on the island in 1957. Also a letter from the donors.
