Hand-framed newspaper obituary for Jessie Ann MacDonald of Milton Cottage, Caoles, who died at the age of 18 in 1898. She attended school at Ruaig and Glasgow, worked in Glasgow, then returned to Tiree to work in the post office. Daughter of Archibald MacDonald, who worked for MacBrayne ferries. Three detailed diaries of Neil MacPhail, Registrar at Kirkapol during 1897-1924. The diaries cover the periods 1897-1900, 1911-1926, 1920-1923. Entries include the weather,  maintenance around the croft, sowing, harvests, cattle breeding, deaths, purchases and payments. Neil was awarded an MBE in 1979 for his services as a Registrar.

Wedding cake postal box and compliments slip found inside a tin box in the wall of Taigh a’ Chontractor, Crossapol, in 2016.

The wedding, held in London on 4 June 1917, was of Kate Matheson Maclennan, mantle saleswoman from Partick, to John Maclean (42), Corporation Clerk and Private in the Royal Highlanders of Canada. The cake box is addressed to Mrs Ann MacDonald, Farmer, Balemartine, Tiree, and stamped 2d. Ann was 66 in the 1911 census (72 at the time of the wedding). Both of Kate’s parents were from Stornoway.
