Extract: “Auntie Maggie and Auntie Katie agreed to do this tape interview with me on a cold April’s day in 1991. I had dropped by Braeside on the way back from a buisness trip in Europe. It was mostly Auntie Maggie who did the talking with Katie chipping in with the odd comment. They talked about their childhood living on the island and life during the war years.”

Printed memoir of a childhood spent on Tiree during WWII by Barry Kerr, 2015. Barry’s father, George (Jock) Kerr, was posted on the island as an RAF Signals and Telegraph Officer. Barry recalls the ‘black house’ he lived in at Balephetrish, the coal puffers, Cornaig school and prisoners of war.

Photocopies of a newspaper obituary and marriage certificate for William Agnew (1862-1931) who may have been the Headmaster at Cornaig School during 1915-1922. A widower, he married his housekeeper Catherine MacDonald on the mainland in 1919 while living at the School House, Cornaigmore. Letter from his grandson John Agnew to Dr Holliday, 2015, with additional information.
