On the inside front cover is written ‘Malcolm Brown 1st Prize 1933’ and John Brown, Balephuil, Tiree. From the house of John Brown, The Sliabh, Balephuil.
Small hardback book in Gaelic ‘An Saoghal a ta ri Teachd / The World to Come’ or ‘Seallaidhean Nèimh agus Ifrinn / Visions of Heaven and Hell’ by John Bunyan, 1891. On the inside front cover is handwritten ‘Francis Wm Taylor, 26th Janry 1901’. Rev Taylor was a Baptist minister. The book was in the belongings of John Brown, Sliabh, Balephuil.
Order of service for the funeral of Rev Bob Higham (1937-2020), and a letter to John Holliday, Balephuil, from Bob’s wife, Di Higham, dated 9/03/2020. Rev Higham was the Church of Scotland minister of the Parish of Tiree during 1995-2002. He published a book about life as a minister on a Hebridean island, was a driving force behind the Tiree Heritage Society, and is buried at Polwarth in the Scottish Borders.
Handwritten letter dated 1978 from Rev Hector Macpherson, The Manse, Parish of Tiree and Coll, to Colin MacPhail (1895-1988), Crossapol, thanking him for taking a forthcoming church service at Heylipol. Mrs Vivienne Johnston is mentioned as the organist.

Photocopy of a black & white photograph of Captain Kenneth MacKenzie (1897-1951), Chief Officer aboard the famous Antarctic research vessel ‘Discovery‘. Kenneth was appointed Chief Officer/First Mate of the Discovery for the first British, Australian and New Zealand Antarctic Research Expedition (BANZARE) in 1929. In 1930, he was promoted to Captain for the second BANZARE expedition. Kenneth (Coinneach a` Mhinisdair) was the grandson of Rev Duncan MacFarlane, Baptist minister at Baugh. Kenneth’s mother, Catherine MacFarlane married Duncan MacKenzie of Inverary.
