Cast iron strainer
Heavy cast iron hand-strainer, probably used for removing large items such as vegetables and meat from the stewing pot, or for slowly melting more solid substances. Designed so that the stock/substance drained down the herring-bone channels into the central bowl from which it could then be poured.
Wooden pail ca 1900
Circular wooden pail with two wooden handles (damaged), made from an old whisky barrel around 1900. Used for washing clothing. Found in a barn at Hynish in 2012 (opposite Hynish House).
Long, curved metal tongs `clobha` for gripping the base of a large pot on the fire.
`Dalli` iron, 1890 – 1930
Large, lidded `Dalli` iron for smoothing fabric, used during 1890 to 1930. A burning brick of smokeless fuel would have been placed into the iron to heat for use. From the estate of Angus MacLean, The Coolins, Scarinish.

Three hand-made, grooved, wooden butter pats used to shape butter into blocks. Two of similar size and one smaller.
Pair of carding combs
Pair of wooden carding combs with metal bristles used to `card out` sheeps wool into fine strands, ready for spinning into yarn. Given to John Morton Boyd, Balephuil, by Mrs Chrissie MacArthur and Miss Flora Campbell (Flòraidh a` Bhàird), Balemartine, on 9th July 1973. Includes a handwritten note by Morton Boyd about the combs.
