Colour photo postcard showing Taigh Mòr Bhig, The Terrace, Sandaig, when it was a dwelling house in 1976, and before it became a ruin and was bought by the Hebridean Trust in 1989 to be re-built and opened as The Thatched Cottage Museum in the 1990s. It later closed and was sold in 2010.

Reproduction of a phototcopied card from WWII Senior Service Cigarettes showing and describing the destroyer HMS Sturdy. From “The Navy series of 48, No. 32”, 1937. The Sturdy was wrecked off Sandaig during a storm in October 1940 with the loss of 5 lives.

Two photocopies of a news article about recollections of Donald MacKinnon, Tiree, who captained the winning tea clipper “Taeping” during the Great China Tea Race of 1866. The original photocopy was on display in the Thatched Cottage Museum, Sandaig, until its closure and sale in 2010.

Laminated and mounted newspaper article regarding Edward Cortis-Stanford`s seaweed industry in the Scottish islands, including Tiree, in the 1800s. Was on display in the Thatched Cottage Museum, Sandaig, until its closure and sale in 2010. In two panels with copper hanging wire.

Copy the first Evening Times newspaper to be delivered to Tiree by aeroplane, 1929

Original copy of The Evening Times newspaper, July 18 1929. It was the first newspaper to be delivered to Tiree by aeroplane. Front page states “Delivered in Tiree by Aeroplane” with an article about the delivery and passengers. The newspaper was initially kept on display in the Thatched Cottage Museum, Sandaig, until its closure and sale in 2010. The plastic sleeve is the original from the museum with a label that reads “Read all about it”.
