Photocopy of a hand-written letter from Eric Cregeen at the School of Scottish Studies, Edinburgh, to Captain John Lamont of Croish, Kilmoluaig, dated 16/12/1980, thanking him and his wife for their hospitality and help while making an audio recording for the SSE archives.

Black & white photograph of Archibald Henderson of Kilmoluaig (1854-1903), in the uniform of the 5th Volunteer Battalion of The Highland Light Infantry, in around 1880. Archibald was the son of Hector Henderson, Grianal (1812-1856), and Julia MacLean, Kilmoluaig (1827-1873) – family of the Hendersons of Moss. He migrated from Tiree to Glasgow in the 1880s.

The uniform was based on that of Black Watch, including the same tartan and a similar style cap badge. The 5th Volunteer Battalion of The Highland Light Infantry was raised in Glasgow in 1868 and was known as the Glasgow Highlanders ‘G’ Company, being made up of natives from Argyllshire. The honorary Colonel of the battalion was the Duke of Argyll. The volunteer battalions were akin to the modern reserve force of the British Army (Territorial Army).

Images include scything at Kilmoluaig, Balemartine PO in the early 1900s, Island House in 1924, drawing of Tug o` War in the late 1800s, Malcolm MacArthur at the reins of his grocers cart, Scarinish harbour 1900, Tiree Pipe Band 1977, Tug o` War 1979, milk delivered in old whisky bottles, coal puffer at Scarinish harbour, thatched house 1921, plane Britee-Norman Trislander 1979, ferry `Columba` in 1970s.

Green hardback dissertation about the family of Sir Donald MacLean who emigrated from Kilmoluaig to New Zealand in 1839, becoming a major landowner at Maraekakaho and government minister for Maori Affairs.
