Colour photograph of L-R: Dugald MacDonald (Dughall Eachainn `ic Chaluim) who owned a hotel in Dunedin, New Zealand, Neil MacArthur (Niall Ruaddh), who had a shop in Balemartine, and Dugald MacArthur (Dughall an taillear), tailor in Balemartine. Taken in front of Neil`s shop around 1973. Dugald MacArthur brought up boarded-out boy John Fletcher, Mull View, Balemartine.

Will of Hector MacDonald, Balemartine, 1922.

Handwritten Will of Hector MacDonald (b.1850?) of Balemartine, dated 11 Sept. 1922, leaving his entire estate to his daughter Annie MacDonald. Written at Heylipol Manse in the presence of the Rev. Alexander MacBean and witnessed by Isabella MacBean (housewife) and Jessie Macnab (district nurse). Hector was a fisherman, worked in MacQuarrie`s shop in Hynish and was a respected leader of the Land Leagues. Also known as `Eachann MacNeill` and `Eachann a` Chaise` / Hector son of Neill and Hector the Cheese (from the shop). (Accession includes a photocopy)

Photograph of Donald MacFadyen, Scarinish, ca. 1900

Sepia photograph of Donald MacFadyen (1852-1912) around 1900. He was the son of Allan MacFadyen and Amelia MacFadyen (nee Stewart), and was the storekeeper in Scarinish, living at Tullymet. Married twice: Jane MacKinnon in Oban in 1884 (died 1901), then Mary MacCallum in Glasgow in 1902.

Cup and saucer illustrated with a view of Scarinish

Small china cup and saucer souvenir from Mona MacDonald`s shop in Scarinish (the corrugated extension to Angus MacLean`s house, whom she married) in the 1970s. Yellowish with gold trim and colour illustration of Scarinish and harbour with lettering “Scarinish Isle of Tiree” and “Hand Painted”. Found during a house clearance when Iain & Helen Paterson sold their house `Taigh bean Iain/Nona Tuaigs` at Caoles, ca 2011.

Copy of OS map of Tiree (1:25,000) that has been annotated by hand to show which roads are to be upgraded in an extensive road improvement programme for the island. Probably in the 1970s. Locations of shops and road weight limits are included. Marked on the reverse “Tiree – for Bob Jones”.
