Collection book for subscriptions towards the upkeep of Soroby Cemetery 1908-1954
Small notebook containing handwritten record of names and amount given towards the upkeep of Sorobie Cemetery between 1908 and 1954. Names include: Donald Lamont (The Land, father of Mary lamont, Mod Gold Medalist), Donald Campbell (“the ban”, grandfather of Alasdair Sinclair Greenhill “Alasdair beag na Cachala”), Gilleasbuig Campbell (his borther), Donald MacLean, Balinoe (his nickname Donald a` Tommy was to do with his hat, great uncle of Willie MacLean, Balinoe), John MacDonald, Sandaig (“Beegee”). Also a small type-written note informing subscribers of Argyll County Council`s failure to keep the cemetery in an orderly state and the need to revive the subscriptions system. The notebook was evidently passed around between subscribers.

The graves of the sailors from H.M.S. Sturdy who were lost at Sandaig in October 1940. The wreath was handmade by Lt. Cdr. Michael J. Gibson RN RD (Rtd) whose father E. J. A. Gibson, Engineer Officer, was injured during the incident, and the photograph taken by Gordon Scott in September 2005.

Photograph of a cross-decorated stone in Soroby graveyard.
Dating from the Early Christian period, i.e. from the 5th to 12th century, this gravestone in Soroby cemetery at Balinoe bears crosses in bold relief on both sides. The edges of the stone and crosses are decorated with heavy cable-moulding.
The front of the stone (not shown) faces east and is carved with a Latin cross, in the centre of which is a massive round boss. There are two crudely shaped serpents in the upper arm. The back is decorated with a ring-headed cross.
The stone stands 1.25 metres high and measures 0.8 metres at its widest and 0.25 metres in depth, excluding the boss on the front. The socket-stone in which it stands is below ground
