Article about the Coll post office by Robert Sturgeon in 1988
Article about the house `Tigh-na-Mara` in Arinagour, Coll, which was the post office in the late 1800s. Robert Sturgeon came to Coll from Dalbeattie in 1889 to run the post office. He went on to create the fish-buying and processing unit, and the house became a guest house.
Black-painted iron bracket for the side of a cart to hold a lantern, similar to those used on a postman`s horse-drawn cart. Note the lead lining of the sleeve.

Two small, stamped envelopes addressed to J MacDonald, Tiree. One to Tiree the other to Glasgow. Each stamped “BEA first `all-up` mail, Renfrew – Tiree 14 June 1948”. These were two of the first letters to be flown to/from the island. Includes photocopy of both.
