Digitised copy of a document regarding the State of the farms on Tiree, and “the two ends of Coll”, by Balineary, 1748-1749. Compiled by the Factor, each entry provides the tenants name, the length of their tenancy, their present rent/tack duty and a comment on their present circumstances and the Factor’s opinions on the tenants’ ability to pay their rent/tack duty.

Digitised copy of a Memorial by Stonefield concerning Tiree, 1748, recording the ‘State of the rents of Tyree [Tiree] from 1706 [and] Downwards’.
This document records sums paid alongside notes on tacksmen, the appointment of a factor, collection of rent, amounts in arrears, and the activities of Ballimore and Barnacarry (factors on Tiree). The document goes on to make further comments on how to more effectively manage the island, including lowering rent to attract new tenants.
Digitised Copy of instructions for Archibald Campbell of Barnacarie, chamberlain of Tiree, 1748. The document issues instructions requesting names of farms, collection of rent, requesting the names of good and bad tenants, taking action against tenants in arrears with their rent, purchasing lands at Scarinish, repairs to damage caused to the north side of the island by sand blowing, restoring McIlmun to position of Officer.

Digitised copy of a Memorial to the Duke of Argyll concerning Tyrie [Tiree] By Archibald Campbell of Barnacarie his Grace’s Factor thereof, 1747. This memorial contains an account of the ‘miserable condition’ of the island, outlines problems with obtaining rent, and makes comments regarding industry upon the island. Campbell notes that ‘the present class of inhabitants in this island are the least mutinous of any have been there for years past’, and remarks that the inhabitants ‘[al]tho[ugh] very poor are very numerous [and] quite Idle’.

The document lists ‘Articles in the Rental of Tirie given up for the year 1743 which are either Desperate, or where the persons therein named have not Accepted of their possessions and so are Waste’ and a ‘List of Tacks or Obligations for Tacks given in Tirie’.

A digitised copy of a volume containing accounts and rentals for Tiree’s crofts from 1845 to 1887. The volume was prepared by Messrs Lindsay, Howe & Co.
For each township there is given: a table with figures for sowning (horses, cows, stirks, and sheep) and acreage (arable, pasture, common); a tabular abstract containing the number of holdings and tenants, total rents, improvement outlay (drainage and buildings) and notes; a ‘detailed history of crofts’ providing an overview of changes which the individual holdings in each township have undergone as regards tenancy, rent, consolidation, enlargement, or otherwise.
There is no data provided in the tabular abstract for the years 1846, 1866 and 1867.
