Remnant of bulb fields at Ruaig
In the 1950s, bulb-growing became an agricultural industry in the Hebrides. There were several bulb farms around Tiree exporting varieties of tulips and daffodils. Unfortunately, Tiree`s weather was not ideal and growers could not compete with the Dutch bulb industry. The Hebridean industry folded in the 1960s.
