Sail-maker’s palm strap to protect the hand from the eye end of the needle when pushing the needle through the tough fabric of the sail, with extra foam padding to protect the top of the thumb. From a collection of sail-maker’s tools belonging to Hector MacKinnon, owner of the schooner ‘Coll Castle’ (Eachann a’ Cholla, born ca 1847).

On the back page are hand-written notes by, or relating to, Hector MacKinnon and Donald MacK[innon]. From the belongings of the Lamont/MacKenzie family of The Harbour, Caoles.

Sepia portrait photograph of Admiral Sir John Jellicoe in Naval uniform in around 1900. Found in The Harbour, Caoles, in the belongings of the Lamont/MacKenzie family. The link between the family and the Admiral is unknown, although it is possible that one of the men served with, or was decorated by, the Admiral.
