Alan traces his ancestors back to the early 1700s, identifying his Tiree ancestors as Camerons (Kilmoluaig and Scarinish), MacDonalds, McLeans (Grianal and Cornaigmore), Campbells (Cornaigbeg), Munns, Kennedys and McFadyens (Scarinish).

21 small pieces of bog iron iron found by Dr John Holliday at Pàirc na Coille, Balephuil, in 2021. Bog iron ore occurs naturally in wet ground associated with sand. It was refined and used by Iron Age settlers to make tools etc.
Handwritten letter dated 1894 from John MacLean, Scarinish, to the solicitor handling the Kenneth MacKenzie Trust, regarding a quarrel between Mrs MacKenzie and Mrs Wallace over who should inherit a manuscript and library (that may have belonged to Rev John Gregorson Campbell).
