Framed print of the “Taeping”
Framed colour print of the clipper “Taeping” captained by Donald MacKinnon, Tiree, with clipper “Fiery Cross” in the background. Text reads “London: Published Oct. 1st 1866 by Wm Foster, 17 Billiter Street E.C.; Clipper Ship “Taeping”, 767 tons; D. MacKinnon Commander; In the china sea in company with the “Fiery Cross” (R. Robinson Comr) on their homeward voyage from Foo-chow-Foo to London, June 1866; To Alex Rodger Esq. (Owner) this print is most repsectfully dedicated by his obedient servant Wm Foster.” The print was bought from an outdoor market in Ballymena, N. Ireland.

Rev Allan Munn was born in Heanish in 1867, the son of Hugh Munn and his wife Ann MacKinnon. Allan left Tiree for Glasgow University and was ordained in 1897 into the United Free Church. His first parish was in Inverness. In 1911 he spent several months at the Scottish Church of Algiers and in 1913 he moved with his wife and seven children to take charge of a church in Germiston in the Transvaal. Eleven years later he moved to the Presbyterian church in Bulawayo, now in Zimbabwe.
