Transcript of a Police Report submitted to Tobermory Procurator Fiscal by Finlay Fraser (D.C., Tiree) regarding the discovery of a body on the shore of Sandaig. The body was possibly one of the crew of the smack Swan of Belfast, which was wrecked on 10th January 1860, and was likely the body of George Murray (Captain, Swan of Belfast).

Transcript of a Police Report submitted to Henry Nisbet, Tobermory Procurator Fiscal, regarding the discovery of a male body on the shore at Greenhill opposite Greenhill House on 20 February 1860. It is speculated in the report that the body was one of the men lost on board the Swan of Belfast, which was wrecked on 19 January 1860. The body was found by Walter Carmichael (labourer, Greenhill). The report is submitted by Finlay Fraser, Detective Constable.

Transcript of Precognition of Witnesses regarding the discovery of bodies on board the wreck of the Francis of St Ives and on the shore of the Isle of Coll, November 1860. The Francis of St Ives, a three masted vessel, was wrecked off the shore of Caoles in Coll, ‘between Ellen oare and Caol’. Descriptions are given of tattoos upon the body of the sailor on board the ship, as well as the clothes he was wearing.

In a letter attached from James MacColl (Interim Registrar of Births and Deaths for the District of Coll) to Henry Nisbet (Tobermory Procurator Fiscal), MacColl writes that the body of Mrs Fowler, a ‘pauper’ residing at Torastan in Coll, was discovered on the 18th October 1860 at some distance from her own house.

Transcript of Inventory of Precognition regarding the bodies of twelve men found washed ashore in Crossapol on the Isle of Coll on 16 December 1873. The men were the crew of the Sultan of London, a barque which was wrecked at Crossapol on 15 December 1873. The bodies were found by Lawrance Cowan (son of and residing with Charles Cowan, Crossapol).
The crew consisted of: P L Greig (Captain), James Crookshank (32, Huntley), J Edwards (30 Philadelphia), F Devon (30 Belgium), George Messerney (49 Jersey), John James (30 Jersey), Carl Frytag (41 Jersey), Frederick Nelson (35, Ireland), John B Smith (38, Virginia), Daniel Byrom (25, Sweden), Carl [Wilcher or Witchen?] (20, Sweden), William Benjamin McCoy (18, Manchester), William Richards (18, Ardwick), John Foy or Fry (30, Limerick).
The transcript contains descriptions of tattoos found on five of the bodies, and mentions their burial at Crossapol graveyard.

Transcript of a Police Report submitted to Tobermory Procurator Fiscal by John MacDougall (Constable) regarding the loss of the smack Mary and Catherine of Tyree, on 3 September 1873. The Mary and Catherine was owned by James MacFadyen (Scarinish) and was wrecked at Freslan (possibly Friesland) near Arinagour in the Isle of Coll while coming from Ardnamurchan with sheep belonging to Thomas Barr (farmer, Balephetrish) and John Paterson (shepherd, Tiree).

Transcript of the petition of Henry Nisbet, Tobermory Procurator Fiscal, against Lachlan McLean (merchant, Totronald, Coll) and John McLean (merchant, Totronald, Coll) relating to the theft of copper and other substances from the wreck of the Barque Mandane of Sunderland. The thefts occurred at or near the beach at Crossapol and the adjoining beach of Breachacha on the Isle of Coll.

Short, tubular, brass spacer found on the shore at Sandaig in 2021, and presumed to be from the destroyer HMS Sturdy which was wrecked there in 1940.
Account of a supernatural event in 1979 witnessed at the scattering of the ashes of Captain James Campbell, skipper of the sunken ship ‘MacDhui’. James Campbell (1900-1978), Tiree emigrated to Australia in 1926.
