Black & white photograph of Lamont Dock in Hong Kong around 1905. The Lamont Dock was completed in 1860 and is named after John Lamont who was from Tiree. When John Lamont and Admiral Sir James Hope built the docks, they accurately foresaw the tremendous width of ships of the future. Original emailed news article extract in Filing cabinet 9 drawer 3.

Copied extract from the book “An Unstoppable Force: The Scottish Exodus to Canada”, listing the names of the ships on which people from Argyll emigrated to Canada, the year (1843-1850), the number of passengers, where from, the source of funds, and ship details. Includes Tiree emigrants.

Colour photograph of the paddle steamer `Waverley` reversing out from Gott pier in June 2010 during its summer tour of the British coast. The ship travelled up Gunna Sound before returning its passengers to Gott pier. (Original in filing cabinet 9 drawer 3)

Reproduction of a phototcopied card from WWII Senior Service Cigarettes showing and describing the destroyer HMS Sturdy. From “The Navy series of 48, No. 32”, 1937. The Sturdy was wrecked off Sandaig during a storm in October 1940 with the loss of 5 lives.

Laminated photocopy of enlarged photograph of HMS Sturdy at sea from a card from a cigarette pack during WWII, plus photocopied reverse side of cigarette card describing the ship: “The Navy, series of 48, No. 32 – Senior Service cigarettes”. Was on display in the Thatched Cottage Museum, Sandaig, until its closure and sale in 2010. HMS Sturdy was wrecked off Sandaig in October 1940 with the loss of five lives.
