Possible photograph of the Rev. Alexander MacLean Sinclair, from the front cover of one of his books ‘The Clan Gillean, 1899’. He became the Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1857. His father, the Rev. John C Sinclair (Iain Mac Phàdruig; Iain son of Peter, son of Donald, son of Donald), was born on Tiree in 1800, attending school in Gott, and University in Edinburgh and Glasgow, before emigrating to Canada in 1838, and then on to North Carolina with his family in 1852. DVD of TV programme Cairdeas Cogaidh in Gaelic and English, featuring Prof. Donald Meek documenting the life and death of his relative, John MacDonald of Caoles, and John ‘Jock’ Stewart who served with John MacDonald in France when John was killed in action in 1917. Donald begins with papers kept in his family’s home in Caoles for 100 years, then travels to John’s grave in France, and on to Africa where Jock lived and worked as a vet.

Sepia photograph of (seated) John MacKinnon of Glasgow (b. 1871) and his wife Nellie (Helen Muir) of Wick, and (standing) John`s sister Sarah MacDonald (nee MacKinnon; b. 1867), probably taken around 1920. Sarah married Robert MacDonald of Wick (Tiree & Patagonia?) in December 1903, they had one son, Neil (MacKinnon?) (married Katherine?) who had one daughter Nancy. On the reverse of the photo is written `Mhairi`s Granny – Sara MacDonald`. (original photo stored in filing cabinet 10 drawer 1)
