Possible photograph of the Rev. Alexander MacLean Sinclair, from the front cover of one of his books ‘The Clan Gillean, 1899’. He became the Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1857. His father, the Rev. John C Sinclair (Iain Mac Phàdruig; Iain son of Peter, son of Donald, son of Donald), was born on Tiree in 1800, attending school in Gott, and University in Edinburgh and Glasgow, before emigrating to Canada in 1838, and then on to North Carolina with his family in 1852.     This is Rev.Alexander Maclean but not the Rev Alexander Maclean that was John Campbell Sinclairs son.They both have the same name.

    Rev John Campbell Sinclair b1800 Tiree, married Mary Julia McLean of Brolas, Mull. She died 1854 at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. He died 1878 at Wheeling, Virginia, USA.
    Rev Alexander MacLean Sinclair was the son of Christy McLean of Caolis Tyree, and John Sinclair of Strath-Halladale, Sutherland. Christy and her husband were estranged before Alexander was born on 1 Mar 1840 at Glenbard Antigonish Co Nova Scotia.
    Christy McLean of Caolis 1809-1887 was the dau of John “Bard Thighearna Chola” McLean who was born 1786 at Cnoc Mhic Dhugaill, Caolis and died 26 Jan 1848 at Glenbard Antigonish Co, Nova Scotia.
