My family is interested in any old information about the 1/7th Scottish Rifles TF in WW1.
In particular No: 1096 Priv. J. Smith DCM. These boys were poorly trained and in many cases poorly led by several British Army Generals.
They were ordered to charge machine guns on June 28th, 1915 using only their bayonets and as a result, suffered 50% casualties. General Haig referred to one as a “DonkeyGenerel”.
