Former Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia Sir Harry Gibbs (2nd man from right at table) at his cousin`s 80th birthday celebrations. Sir Harry`s great-grandparents were Ann Campbell, who was born in Tiree, and Donald Rankin MacDonald, a doctor and magistrate in New South Wales.

Alasdair MacDonald, from Tiree, was the oldest practicing lawyer in Ottawa when he died in 1994 aged ninety-three, having been a regular attendee at the Elgin Street offices of MacDonald Affleck until just nine months before he passed away. He came to Ottawa from Tiree during the First World War and was a prominent lawyer in the city for sixty-five years. He was a fluent Gaelic speaker who helped found the Chair of Celtic Studies at Ottawa University.

Barney`s River in Pictou County, Nova Scotia photographed Dr Margaret MacKay in 1978. John MacLean, Bard Thighearna Cholla bought a plot of woodland there after emigrating from Caoles in 1819.
Black and white photograph of Archie MacKinnon and his wife Christena Clark. John was the son of Fingon MacKinnon and Christena McLean of Salum, Tiree and was baptized 23 Nov 1832. The whole family (including John’s six younger brothers) left Tiree aboard the Conrad in September 1851. Christena Clark was the daughter of Hugh Clark and Christena McLean of Ruaig, Tiree. She was baptized 10 Jun 1833. The whole family came to Ontario about 1846, settling first in Brock Township. Christena and John were married in Ontario about 1857. They had eight children, but only one married and there were no grandchildren. John died 5 Feb 1919 and Christena died 24 Aug 1918. They are buried in Tiverton Cemetery.
