Handwritten information regarding the heredity of Neil MacKinnon (b. Glasgow, 1903)

Handwritten information about the family of Neil MacKinnon, captain in the Merchant Navy, his possible link to Tiree, and documents and photograph 2014.84.1 to 5. Neil had Vaul connections and could have been the illegitimate son of Mhairi`s grandmother Sarah MacDonald (nee MacKinnon; b. 1867), who, after his birth, married Robert MacDonald of Wick (and Tiree and Patagonia?) in December 1903.

List of names of 13 soldiers and sailors of Heylipol Parish who fell in the Great War 1914-1919, transcribed from a brass plaque above the altar in Heylipol Church in 2014. Names include Lamont, MacDonald, MacFadyen, MacFarlane, MacLaren, MacKinnon, MacPhail, Sinclair and MacArthur.

Women`s Voluntary Service badge from WWII

Silver square pin badge with red-embossed crown and “W.V.S Civil Defence”. It was worn by a relative of the Campbells of Cornaigbeg, while she was serving in the Women`s Voluntary Service on Tiree during World War 2. The WVS was set up to help local communities prepare for potential air attacks, but was also involved in the evacuation of children from cities, and the distribution of clothing and food to returning soldiers and the war-affected.
