33 photographs and programmes of RAF Tiree theatre company performances during WWII

33 black & white photographs, and eight programmes, of performances by `The Tireans` and `The Reef Players`, the RAF personnel theatre groups who staged shows at RAF Tiree during WWII. Includes photocopy of one programme signed by all the performers (the original returned to the donor). Superb stage sets and costumes. The wardrobe supervisor, Stanly Bowman, was the donor`s father. (six photos, S100-S105, accessioned separately for display files).

Letters written during WWII mentioning Charles MacLean (Druimfraoich) missing in action

Three letters (and photocopies) handwritten on `Air Mail Letter Card` during WWII, from brothers Angus and Alasdair McLellan to their mother. Although not from Tiree themselves, they mention that their comrade Charles MacLean is missing in action. Charles MacLean was a cousin of Lachie MacLean, Druimfraoich, Cornaigbeg, who lived in Linlithgow next door to Angus & Alasdair`s mother (Marion Findlater`s grandmother). Charles was in the RAF and was shot down.

Two prints of a photograph of Halifax `S` of RAF Tiree 518 Squadron flying over Loch Linnhe in 1944. This was one of two aircraft involved in the fatal mid-air collision over Tiree in August 1944 with the loss of all 16 crew. Given to Dr Holliday by DJ Macfarlane of Oban during war-book launch 2012. (same photo as R153)
