Photograph of Charles MacKinnon and Lachlan MacKinnon, both Vaul, ca. 1925
Black & white photograph of (L-R) Charles MacKinnon of Gunna View, Vaul, and Lachlan MacKinnon (1845-1935) of Dunmore, Vaul, standing with their pitchforks by a haystack around 1925. (original stored in filing cabinet 9 drawer 4)
I’m sure that Mr Lachlan MacKinnon, Dunmore, Vaul depicted in this photograph is my great grandfather ( my maternal grandmother Flora’s father ) it ties up with all the information I have. The other person Mr Charles MacKinnon, Gunna View, Vaul would either be the husband or brother in law of my Aunt Maggie another daughter of Lachlan and my grandmother’s younger sister ( the brothers all lived in Gunna View even after my great aunt married one of them ). I am in the process of researching my family tree which I’m finding rather confusing with family members marrying someone with same name as their parents & my previous generation are now deceased, luckily I did a lot of ear-wigging as a child !
It’s a small correction, but Lachie Mackinnon, Dun More Vaul, in fact died in 1935, not 1937 – on 23rd January. I have a copy of his death certificate, and his tombstone in Kirkapol graveyard says the same. He was my great-grandfather; my father, Alastair, was his son John’s second son.
In response to Irene Ramsay above (hello cousin!) I’m pretty confident that Charles Mackinnon Gunna View is Lachie’s son-in-law, Charles (1867-1936), married to his daughter, Maggie Mary (1885-1965).
Thank you, Iain.
