The Coal Ree at Kenovay in 2004

The coal ree was a high walled enclosure into which the coal was stored after it was delivered by ship onto the beach at Balephetrish Bay. The first coal brought to the Kenovay coal ree was in 1900 at 12 shillings a ton - that`s 60p in today`s money!
