School closed for potato harvest in 1895

Extract from Balemartine Public School Log Book 1916-1933. When the potatoes were ready to be lifted from the fields, most members of the family helped and education took second place. `PT`s` were pupil teachers, older children who helped to teach the younger ones, thereby receiving `on the job` training towards their future careers.
