Extracts from the minutes of the Health and Welfare Committee of Argyll District Council, 1963, regarding the campaign to convert the United Free Church Manse at Scarinish into an Eventide Home for the elderly (Tigh a’ Rudha).

8th March 1963: “On the matter being raised by Mr Malcolm McLean it was decided that a report should be submitted to the next meeting of the Committee on the extent of any Part 3 Accommodation problem in Tiree.”

7th June 1963: letters from Malcolm McLean and the County Medical Officer remitted to Sub-Committee on Part 3 Accommodation “on receipt of (a) information from the District Clerk as to numbers requiring accommodation and (b) a report by the County Architect on the suitability of the premises referred to in the letters”.

Colour photograph of the stone cairn at Sandaig that supported the brass memorial plaque dedicated to those affected by the wrecking of the destroyer HMS Sturdy on rocks off Sandaig in October 1940 with the loss of five lives. Erected in 2010 on the 70th anniversary of the disaster as part of a memorial event. Photo taken in 2010 and donated by Bernie Smith, Balephuil.

Order of Service for HMS Sturdy memorial dedication, October 2010

Photocopied Order of Service for the HMS Sturdy memorial dedication held at Sandaig, Soroby graveyard and An Talla on 30th October 2010. The Sturdy was wrecked off Sandaig on 30th October 1940 with the loss of five lives.

Photocopy of brass plaque on MacCallum`s cairn at Kilkenneth

Black & white photocopy of the brass plaque on MacCallum`s cairn at Kilkenneth. Erected in 1986, the plaque reads “In memory of rev. Donald MacCallum born Craignish, Argyll, 9th October 1849, Minister of Hylipol, Tyree Dec. 1887 – Aug. 1889. Died 23rd April 1929 at Glendale, Skye. Interred in Glendale Cemetery. Like the biblical prophets he took up the cause of the oppressed and was chief leader of the Land League movement of the time.”
