The ruins of the tangle store behind Ben Hough (photographed in 1999)During the 1800`s, there was a booming kelp industry on Tiree that created a new level of wealth for many islanders. Crofters were employed to collect the kelp or `tangle` from the shore for processing at the seaweed factory.
